Angelic Ugly emerges from a simple question: why are dolls so scary? There is something eerie about the limbo of being somewhat anthropomorphic, but not human.
This collection is the result of my final thesis in fashion design, in which the construction and silhouettes of historical dresses and doll bodies becomes of great importance. It explores the relationship between the familiar and the uncanny, breaking down what lies in between. The romanticism of ruffles and embroidery, combined with seemingly innocent yet suggestive illustrations, as well as the pursuit of unnaturalness, create ambiguous scenes that evoke both affinity and discomfort. Through this editorial, it explores the shifting of perception when a doll goes from being familiar to perverse.
